Programme Overview

The Developing Learning Programme aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in classrooms. The programme is designed and delivered by outstanding school leaders and, through a series of 5 half day structured CPD sessions based in schools, will draw upon focussed lesson observations, demonstration of leading practice and peer teaching opportunities. Each half day event leads directly into the development of a focussed area of practice back in school, to be supported by the home school mentor. It is imperative that teachers participating in the DLP programme have the support of an identified in-school mentor. Through their engagement on the programme teachers will:

  • develop skills and strategies to consistently achieve good learning and progress from their students
  • experience best practice to share with others in their departments and schools

The DLP consists of five half day face-to-face sessions. All sessions are held within schools as participants will be required to drop into lessons to observe real classroom practice in relation to the theme covered within each session. The session themes are:

  1. Engagement for Learning
  2. Assessment for Learning
  3. Developing Good Quality Questioning
  4. Differentiation and Challenge
  5. Delivering High Quality Teaching

1.Engagement for Learning

  • Discussion and examples of how to improve pupil engagement in the classroom
  • A tour of the school, focussing on the Project Based Learning approach and immersive learning environments
  • Lesson observation

2.Assessment for Learning

  • Discussion on how to promote high quality AFL in the classroom, including success criteria and feedback
  • A book scrutiny
  • An introduction to critique to support children in moving their learning forward
  • Lesson observation

3.Developing Good Quality Questioning

  • Practical ideas and resources to promote good quality questioning that deepens pupil’s thinking
  • Questioning techniques and application
  • Encouraging children to ask questions
  • Lesson observation

4.Differentiation and Challenge

  • An outline of different types of differentiation
  • Practical ideas about how to achieve good differentiation within lessons
  • How to challenge the more able pupils
  • Lesson observation and the chance to question the teacher about how they differentiate

5.Delivering High Quality Teaching

  • Delegates teaching a mini lesson to 6 of our pupils and they will receive supportive feedback

Time Commitment

5 half day structured CPD sessions based in schools.

Course Costs (£)

The cost of the DLP programme is £250 per participant. The full cost of the programme will be fully funded for subscribers to Learners First. (Please note this excludes travel and cover costs which cannot be covered by Learners First).
